Tintypes were a popular form of photography in the 19th century, created by developing a photographic image directly onto a thin sheet of metal, usually iron coated with a dark lacquer or enamel.
Session Details:
Each plate (tintype) is poured, sensitized and developed during the session, all in 15-20 minutes, so time is of the essence!
Please try to arrive 5 minutes early so we have as much time as possible together. These sessions are 1-take affairs, but if something goes wrong with the first shot, we *may* have time to shoot a second take. Be prepared to hold still as exposure times range between 5 and 15 seconds. There is a bright flash involved but this is safe even for infants.
Tintypes are washed, scanned & varnished after the session. I'll ship them to you within two weeks, digital files will be emailed by September 14th.
We'll have 30 minutes to create a portrait of you or you and a loved one using the historic wet-plate process from the 1850s. Come prepared to be immortalized in silver!
Sizes:
